Financial Hardship online experience

Adapting the banking experience in an agile sprint to support financial solutions to hardship amid a pandemic.

Art Direction / Creative Strategy /
User Experience Design

We partnered with our internal client to provide a leading online bank three use cases addressing financial hardship due to the precarious situation created by the pandemic. The goal was to provide temporary solutions for people to address their overdue payments for their different banking products. As the design team, our challenge was to interpret, strategize and execute concise user experiences in three days to provide smart, simple, and approachable design solutions.

Use Case #1

New online users rearranging payment plans for an existing loan.

Use Case #2

Wanting to make and schedule overdue payments on their credit card.

Use Case #3

Assessing possible options to refinance loans with bank hardship program.

Thinking & Assessing

Focusing on the fundamentals, prioritizing people during an agile sprint.

The fast nature of this project forced us to strip down our process to the bare essentials, focusing on the user experience of the process and leveraging the client's existing design system for the interface design. We held a lighting-round brainstorm session to identify the most fundamental needs for our audience, translating those needs into features to prioritize and incorporate within the online banking experience, and create low-fi sketches to validate with stakeholders.

Focusing & Pivoting

Our focus was to maintain a human-centered approach and ensure that we were leading people through the end-to-end process of receiving a notification, accessing their account, and making, scheduling, or refinancing their payments or loans.

Focusing & Pivoting

Aiming for clarity and familiarity to get the job done.

We strived for approachability and simplicity for each experience to decrease some of the anxiety associated with online banking and overdue payments. Each task was broken down into small steps addressed in an approachable and personal language that would help people walk through the steps to plan their payments as their situations allow.
